Joshua Carpenter’s photography is more than just a play of light and
shape that reflects a place; his work makes the audience vulnerable to
the affects of that place. His images are forceful and layered, but not
always beautiful. They reflect a dynamic world in all its serenity and
chaos; challenging the viewer to take an active part in the process.
The picture finds its conclusion in the audience.
Joshua was born and raised in New England and now lives in Richmond
Virginia with his wife and daughter. He is an avid gourmet cook and
traveler and these passions are seen in his imagery. Joshua has been
published nationally and internationally.
His work garnered this praise from Art Director Arnel Reynon of Target
Communications, “His photos captured the context of the assignments
while bringing life to the page and never feared experimentation to
better the design as a whole. He made the jobs of the designers and the
